Environment Management System
The Consortium has created an Environment Management System (EMS, in Italian SGA, Sistema di Gestione Ambientale) in compliance with EMAS Regulation requirements, whose purpose is to continuously improve environmental performances.
The Consortium's Environmental Management System
The layout of the Consortium's EMS documentation is shown in the figure below:
Environmental analysis
The Environmental Analysis is the document where the environmental features connected with the activities and services of the Consortium have been identified, analysed and assessed against law prescriptions and regulations, environmental requirements, applicable procedures and practices in the environmental field, and previous accidents and emergencies.
Whenever there is a change in the district activities, the initial Environmental Analysis is updated by the Consortium, so as to reflect dynamically the real situation in the official document and provide a systematic picture of the relevant environmental, legislative and management issues.
Environment Management System Manual
The Environment Management System Manual is the reference document of the EMS, where the procedures followed by the Consortium for the following activities are defined and described:
- to fulfil Environmental Policies requirements and provide evidence of this compliance to all the stakeholders involved;
- to establish continuous environmental improvement objectives;
- to ensure compliance with law provisions regarding environmental performances;
- to control those activities that may generate a significant impact on the environment;
- to monitor and supervise environmental performances.
The Management Procedures illustrate the activities, responsibilities and records required for the implementation of the EMS in the real situation of the organisation, in line with the main essential requirements established by those applicable regulations. The operating Procedures are documents that contain explanations of specific activities and are a supplement to the Manual or the management procedures. They are defined to provide operating modes in order to ensure effective management and control of the most significant environmental aspects of the organisation. The recording Documents are the tool used to provide evidence of the implementation of the activities to support the contents of the Manual, the management and operating procedures.
The environmental Programme is the tool used to translate general environmental policy objectives into concrete reality through the definition of specific targets. This ensures an appropriate support to their achievement by the different functions involved in the implementation of the "continuous improvement" plan.
The Declaration on the Environment
This document is used by the Consortium to communicate with its stakeholders about the structure and development of its EMS, specifically referring to the environmental performance, the achievement of established objectives and the action planned to ensure continuous improvement.
